JUNE HIGHLIGHTS

Welcome to the second half of the year. We are grateful to still be here amidst all of the world’s troubles.

At 4040, every new month brings with it a fresh opportunity to dream, serve, and grow. June was no different.

From classrooms in Gulu to conference halls in Kigali, our hands have been full with learning. We are excited to share the life changing work that your support continues to make possible.

We invite you to be part of our Prom themed fundraiser to have fun and celebrate the work that you have enabled us to do. Details are coming in a bit.

Lovers & Friends

On Saturday, 27th September 2025, 4040 will host its first-ever Prom at the Angaza Resource Centre, a night of elegance and fun, all in support of our Mobile Library Project.

This evening is not just a celebration; it is a fundraiser aimed at delivering books, learning materials, and mentorship directly to underserved schools in Kibuli and beyond, particularly for those unable to physically access the Angaza Resource Centre.

Our mobile library will serve as a moving hub of knowledge and opportunity, equipping children with the tools they need to read, learn, and dream big, and supporting teachers with valuable resources to enhance their lessons.

If you missed prom in high school, didn’t enjoy it, or simply want to relive the memory, here is your second chance. This time, for grown folk. Make it a date night with your partner, bestie, family or squad.

A ticket goes for UGX 200,000 per person for a night to remember.

We are also calling on brands, creatives, and supporters who are passionate about education, philanthropy and youth empowerment to come on board. Whether it’s décor, entertainment, or refreshments, your contribution can help us make this night unforgettable and fuel a project that will touch countless lives.

ARC team strengthens mentorship skills in Gulu

In June, the Angaza Resource Centre (ARC) team spent four weeks in Gulu taking part in an intensive supervision and mentorship training. This hands-on experience brought together our teachers, librarian, and project lead to sharpen their skills in mentoring phonics-trained educators across our partner schools.

The training focused on transforming theory into practice, ensuring that phonics instruction is not only taught but also effectively implemented in classrooms. Through ongoing learning and shared growth, the team is now better equipped to guide educators and support long-term improvements in literacy.

We are proud of their commitment and the mentors they are becoming, champions of change who are helping children learn to read with confidence and joy.

Community in action

It has been four weeks since the Angaza Outreach Programme resumed, and we have had a wonderful time reconnecting with children through both life skills and hands-on learning. One of the highlights was a school clean-up at Quentin Junior School, a practical lesson in community agency.

As learners addressed real challenges in their environment, they discovered their own power to lead change. It is these simple yet meaningful activities that remind us how deeply children care about their communities, and how eager they are to contribute.

Reflections from the East African Philanthropic Conference in Kigali

In June, our Head of Fundraising and Partnerships, Penelope Nabirye, represented 4040 at the 9th East Africa Philanthropy Conference in Kigali, Rwanda. Under the theme “Agile Philanthropy: Adapting to Economic, Social, and Political Shifts,” over 400 organisations came together to reimagine giving in Africa.

A powerful message that was echoed throughout the event was that real impact goes beyond financial contributions. The time, skills, and lived experiences of people, especially within the communities we serve, are just as critical. Philanthropy must shift from charity to co-creation, trusting local communities to lead the solutions they know best.

At 4040, these reflections reaffirmed our belief that lasting change comes from within. Communities already know what matters. Our role is to listen, honour their wisdom, and walk alongside them.

Volunteers of the Month

We are proud to shine a light on Joseph Kigozi, Dennise Kwizera, and Jemimah Nabukeera, our Volunteers of the Month for June. Their dedication, time, and talent have made an incredible contribution, and we are so grateful to have them as part of the 4040 family.

Our work is only possible because of amazing individuals like them who continue to give of themselves so generously.
