40 Days over 40 Smiles Foundation (4040) is a volunteer based Non profit organisation founded in 2012. We provide literacy and educational resources to children in underserved communities as a means of increasing enrolment, retention and improving access to quality education.
We recruit, train and place volunteers into our beneficiary schools and the communities we work. Volunteers provide educational support by facilitating Angaza session and providing professional support to the school and communities.
We provide essential and supplementary learning resources to the schools within which we work, as well as to the out-of-school children that benefit from our programs.
We conduct teacher training to support teachers.
We construct and manage safe learning spaces for children to give them access to learning resources such as books, computers, and games, among others which they would ordinarily have no access to.
Our intervention is dubbed Angaza which is derived from the Swahili word for “Shine.” It is the flagship program through which we are able to provide educational and learning resources to vulnerable children, under-resourced schools and underserved communities.
Located at Merowa Junior School in Kibuli, Makindye Division, the first Angaza Resource Centre was opened on 1st July, 2023.
The Angaza Resource Centre (ARC) is a child-friendly safe space within an underserved community furnished with learning resources that are freely accessible by community schools and out-of-school children.
4040 recruits, trains, mentors and works with over 50 young people annually.
