Celebrating Young Voices: Pen the Future Writing Competition Prize Ceremony

On Friday, 25th July 2025, the 40 Days Over 40 Smiles Foundation (4040) proudly hosted the prize-giving ceremony for the Pen the Future Writing Competition at Merowa Junior School. The event celebrated the creativity, imagination, and hard work of young writers from our partner schools, including Merowa Junior School, Quentin Junior School, and Vallerian Primary School.

The competition, part of 4040’s Angaza Outreach Programme, invited children to explore themes close to their hearts, family, friendship, the environment, leadership, and the future, through essays and poems. From 72 submitted stories, a team of judges selected 13 outstanding winners, whose work reflected not only talent but also thoughtfulness and originality.

The ceremony brought together proud parents, guardians, teachers, and the children themselves, creating a joyful atmosphere full of encouragement and celebration.

“I am so proud of my child. This recognition encourages them to keep writing and dreaming big,” said one parent during the ceremony.

“I never thought my poem about protecting the environment would win. It feels amazing to see my ideas appreciated!” shared one of the young winners.

Teachers from participating schools also expressed their excitement:

“The competition has motivated our learners to explore their creativity and express themselves. It’s inspiring to see them take pride in their work,” said a teacher from Vallerian Primary School.

4040 volunteers highlighted the importance of nurturing young voices:

“Our goal is not just to reward excellent writing but to inspire children to imagine and create a better future. These young voices are powerful, and we are here to celebrate them,” said Rachael Nabweteme from 4040.

The Angaza Outreach Programme, which supports children in four schools in Kibuli, has reached over 3,500 children, promoting literacy, creativity, and personal development. This event was another milestone in our commitment to nurturing young minds and celebrating their voices.

Parents and guardians were reminded that photographs and videos taken during the event will help showcase the amazing work of these young writers, highlighting the transformative power of education and creativity.

At 4040, we believe that every child’s story matters. The Pen the Future Writing Competition has not only recognised outstanding young writers but also encouraged children to imagine, express, and aspire. The future is bright, and these young voices are already shaping it.
