31 teenagers receive ICT and life skills training at the Angaza Resource Centre

From May 5th to 16th, 2025, the 40 Days Over 40 Smiles Foundation proudly welcomed 31 youngsters from the neighbouring communities for a vibrant holiday program at the Angaza Resource Centre (ARC).

Teenagers and young adults received two weeks of learning and growth, blending ICT classes, literacy sessions, and life skills workshops. The programme was attended by 6 primary school students and 25 from secondary schools, a diverse mix of eager learners excited to explore new skills.

Topics such as online safety, gratitude, social capital, and communication were explored in creative, interactive ways, empowering participants with practical tools for everyday life.

Thanks to a structured rotation system and the timely arrival of new computers, participants were able to enjoy a hands-on experience at ease. They learned essential skills such as basic computer functions, typing, and navigating simple software key abilities in today’s digital world. The excitement around the new computers was contagious. The new children who had never touched a keyboard before quickly became curious and confident.

To balance learning with leisure, the program also included fun activities such as board games and word games, helping the children relax, bond, and build teamwork skills.

Rachael (15) a student at St. Janan Secondary School in Kabalagala reflects on her experience while at the ARC and the value of the Holiday Programme in bridging school curriculum gaps while creating an opportunity for her to interact with her peers.

This Programme has built my ICT skills which I use at school. The ARC is also a home away from home. You leave your problems at the gate and when you enter the ARC, you forget them because of the friends but the teachers are also nice.”

A special highlight of the program was the visit from renowned chef and longtime 4040 supporter, Chef Sara Akelly. She shared her inspiring journey of 13 years in the culinary world, emphasizing the importance of resilience, open-mindedness, and embracing new opportunities. Chef Kelly’s visit concluded with a delightful treat—a sushi bake she had prepared, leaving everyone inspired and well-fed!

Moments like these are a powerful reminder of how community members like Chef Sara can enrich our work not just through skills but through stories, laughter, and shared experiences.

The program wrapped up with engaging activities like a storytelling chain and a lively quiz session, blending creativity, teamwork, and general knowledge. We are thrilled to see the continuous growth of both returning and new participants and look forward to their future success.

A Visit from Nonprofit Builder
The ARC also welcomed Natasha and Oprah from Nonprofit Builder, an international platform dedicated to capacity building and consulting for nonprofit organizations. Nonprofit Builder connects organizations like ours with expert consultants to enhance operations and achieve better outcomes. We are privileged to receive their support as partners of the Segal Family Foundation.

As proud beneficiaries of their services, we were thrilled to have Natasha and Oprah visit the ARC to witness the impact of their support firsthand. They engaged with our team, observed our activities, and affirmed the incredible potential of our shared mission. Their visit was not just a testament to our ongoing work but also a celebration of the partnerships that make it possible.
