The Angaza Resource Centre (ARC) is an initiative of the 40 Days Over 40 Smiles Foundation (40-40). ARC creates safe, resource-rich spaces that support learning both in and beyond the classroom, particularly for underserved communities, all at no cost.
Based in the Kibuli-Kabalagala community, ARC currently serves four partner primary schools, welcoming up to 220 children every week for structured lessons in literacy and ICT. The Centre complements formal education by strengthening foundational reading skills, supporting school retention, and introducing learners to essential digital competencies.
Beyond learners, ARC invests in educators and youth development. The Centre has conducted phonics-based literacy training for over 50 teachers from its partner schools, strengthening classroom instruction and long-term learning outcomes. During school holidays, ARC hosts youth programmes that combine ICT training and life skills, ensuring continued learning, creativity, and personal development outside the school term.
Through community partnerships, targeted programming, and a strong focus on literacy and digital inclusion, the Angaza Resource Centre plays a critical role in expanding educational opportunity and strengthening learning ecosystems for children and youth in its community.
Angaza Outreach Program - AOP
Our intervention is dubbed Angaza which is derived from the Swahili word for “Shine.” It is the flagship program through which we are able to provide educational and learning resources to vulnerable children, under-resourced schools and underserved communities. We do this in the following ways;
Provide human resource support to under-resourced schools and at-risk communities through volunteer placement.
Increase equitable access to essential scholastic materials – e.g, exercise books, mathematical sets, pens, pencils, and school bags.
Establish resourced learning spaces for children in underserved communities such as slums and rural areas.
Provide complementary educational tools and resources such as computers, storybooks, artbooks, learning aids and instructional materials
VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The 40 Days Over 40 Smiles Foundation Volunteer Programme offers a unique opportunity for passionate and skilled individuals to contribute meaningfully to community development. Volunteers commit to a minimum of 12 months though many remain with the organization longer, taking on increased responsibilities over time. Placement areas include the Angaza Outreach Programme, Communications and Marketing, Fundraising and Partnerships and Finance and Operations—applicants are encouraged to choose their preferred department based on their skills, experience and interests.
Each year, 4040 recruits, trains and mentors over 50 young people equipping them with practical experience and valuable personal development. Volunteers benefit from hands-on training, peer mentorship and leadership coaching while gaining access to a diverse network of changemakers. Outstanding volunteers are recognized through awards and recommendations that support future career opportunities. Ultimately, the programme nurtures socially conscious individuals who go on to create lasting impact in their communities.
