ANGAZA NA SAUTI SOL
So, this is an actual thing that happened. The children and staff of Merowa Junior School, Kibuli, were just chilling, minding their own business, when baam! The Live and Die in Africa tour bus pulled up outside the school gate and Sauti Sol, The SAUTI SOL, walked through the gates of their school!
Now, full disclosure, the 4040 Angaza team (the literacy program) might have fan-girled out a lot more than the kids, probably because the kids are still innocent and have not yet experienced the adolescent stage in life that makes you acutely aware of attractive men, but they will have their time.
The children had the opportunity to learn a bit about Sauti Sol (so, not only are they talented singers, they are also quite brainy with degrees in things like Actuarial Science!), learn the lipala dance, be encouraged to follow their dreams and to study hard!
Bien-Aime, Polycarp, Willis and Savara (Yes, we are on first name basis now!) and your entire team, we at 4040 did not take it lightly that, out of your super busy schedules, you took the time to come inspire children to dream big, read more, pursue an education and basically be the best they can be! These are ideals that the Angaza Program is hoping to impart onto children.
However, it is one thing to be told about the importance of reading and pursuing your dreams, it’s another to meet live examples of people passionate about reading AND doing seemingly impossible big things. To have them, in the flesh, tell you that they are normal guys (although with those voices, one can argue otherwise) who had a dream and went after it. Thank you.
Oh and thank you for being gracious enough to oblige all our requests for selfies and endless photos! The children will remember it for a while and Lord knows we will never forget it!
