4040 Thanks You
Saturday, 3rd December 2016, started on a rainy note, but many people braved it and made their way to St. John Baptist in Kibuli, where the 40 Days over 40 Smiles free medical camp and children’s Christmas party was set to happen. Lord knows the temptation to ‘keep pulling blankets’ must have been great.
The members of the community began arriving as soon as there were signs of activity, as soon as the team began setting up. The weather took a sunny turn and remained that way for the rest of the day, which was a welcome change. About 1,000 people – women and men, mothers and daughters, fathers and sons came to get checked, that day. We found out that many of them hadn’t had a medical checkup since the last medical camp we had in February 2015, and we were blessed to share the Christmas cheer with them. We were able to diagnose and treat common ailments, offer referrals for complex cases as well as provide HIV testing and counseling, dental hygiene classes, and sexual reproductive health services.
The children came prepared for a fun packed day and the energy they had the whole day was proof of that. Seeing their cute faces painted, their ‘serious’ faces during the board games and their happiness for cake put a smile on many faces. The entertainment from the traditional dancers was simply beautiful.
The event wouldn’t have been a success without the volunteers, who shared their time and skills with us. And our partners IMF Namuwongo, The Medical Concierge Group, Reach a Hand Uganda, The School of Dentistry Mulago, Students of Makerere University, Zimba Games and Superflitzer. Thank you so much for believing with us, and being the change you want to see.
To everyone that joined us, or couldn’t make it but contributed, or couldn’t do either but did in spirit, thank you very much. Let’s continue to spread some cheer this festive season.
