Easter Feast: Lunch With The Kids
What did you do over the Easter weekend?
Had dinner with family? Traveled upcountry? Caught up with friends?
That’s what we too did. We mobilized a bunch of friends, strangers, lovers and family, drove to St. Noah’s Family, a children’s home in Nansana – Naluvule (about 20 kilometers from Kampala) – and had lunch with the children.
We have done for 4 years now. It is the reason why we were initially founded. To celebrate such holidays, sing, play, dance, special meal and make merry with children who do not have families to go to over holidays like Easter or Christmas.
And this year was fun!
From the thrill of musical chairs and the funniest dance moves *yap! we had a dance competition*, to foosball and funny photo poses, to a sumptuous lunch topped with a tasty cake – the 80 children and over 30 adults had an Easter to remember.
Sweaty and with muscle pains from having to pull every imaginable dance move in the competition with the kids; enduring the sweltering heat and from the effects of pilawo, matooke and chicken, it was sad that we had to leave.
But it’s just March; we know we shall have many more like this. In fact, there’s another one coming up – April 9th in Luwero. We shall be opening the children’s library at Happy Times Childcare Initiative in Luwero.
